Management Accountant (Makes Sums Work)

Location:                    Henley-on-Thames

Reports to:                 Finance Controller (Runs Making the Sums Work)

Direct Reports:            Accounts Payable Assistant & Accounts Assistant (Helps Makes Sums Work)

Contract:                    Permanent, full time

 

Purpose of role:

Support the Sums (Finance) team by taking responsibility for accounting, statutory reporting, management reporting, and team management, as well as other ad-hoc tasks.

Role activities / responsibilities:

  • Management of general ledger, including:
    o Oversight over all accounts; allocations, coding etc…
    o Detailed review and understanding of fixed costs
    o Query resolution

  • Month end reporting, including:
    o Management of all month end processes (excluding payroll)
    o Production of management accounts and commentary
    o Reporting to US head office via Hyperion

  • Marketing team support and accounting, including:
    o Supporting the Marketing team in the understanding of their spend compared to budget/forecast
    o Management of month end accruals for marketing
    o Production of Marketing spend dashboards
    o Preparation of Marketing budgets and forecasts

  • Statutory reporting and compliance, including;
    o Key point of contact for the year end statutory audit
    o Oversight of financial statement preparation
    o Tax compliance and statutory returns

  • Internal controls compliance (Sarbox), including:
    o Co-ordinating the Sums team to ensure that internal control processes are in place and effectively monitored
    o Co-ordinating an annual review of key control processes

  • Line management responsibility for two other members of the Sums team, including:
    o Being a 1st class line manager by leading, motivating and supporting your team
    o Ensuring your team play an active role in delivering against the Sums’ 3 year strategy
    o Supporting your team to achieve their individual KPIs and development plans
    o Taking full responsibility for the areas of work covered by your team within the Sums team

  • Ad hoc project support

You will need:

  • CCAB (or similar) accountancy qualification
  • To be driven and results orientated with a desire to achieve
  • A willingness to throw yourself into a varied and busy role
  • Good communication skills with the ability to speak to others in the business at all levels and deal with queries from external parties e.g. suppliers
  • Experience of line management, with a desire to bring the best out of people
  • Good attention to detail and an ability to work to deadlines with accuracy
  • Good experience of utilising Microsoft Office, in particular fluency with Excel
  • Ability to manage your workload around busy periods and key deadlines

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience of working with SAP B1, Hyperion and COGNOS
