National Account Manager (Make Deals)

Location: Near Henley-on-Thames – You’ll be Barns-based


Reports to: UK Sales controller (there are 2, but you’ll report to 1)


Direct Reports: None


Contract: Full time, Permanent


Purpose of role:

  • Inspire, excite + motivate your customers and fellow NAMs, knowing + demonstrating what it takes to be best in class
  • Be the expert at Ella’s when it comes all things about your customers
  • Build strong relationships with your customers, gain a real understanding of their strategies & goals + align them to our plans
  • Create imaginative, ambitious and commercially sensible/motivating plans that engage the customer, help us achieve our mission + ultimately increase sales
  • Be highly visible within Ella’s Barns, making sure you’re representing the needs of your customers in the right forums (in the right way).


Role activities / responsibilities:

  1. Revenue + Profit delivery:
  • Deliver UK GSV, TI (trade investment), Net Sales, Contribution (profit) + Share targets
  • Ensure TI is managed effectively in your customers, ensuring we spend it on the right activity that achieves our objectives and ultimately drives sales +/or contribution
  • Help launch + ultimately manage our new revenue streams as they come to life (new brands, new categories & NPD)
  1. Customer Management:
  • Build + manage the contact strategy for your customers (commercial, formats, commercial finance, supply chain, shopper marketing etc…)
  • Build great relationships with your buyers + commercial contacts, get out and see them regularly + show what makes us different to the rest of competitors
  • Make sure we’re the brand that challenges customers, but isn’t the painful one to deal with – listen, communicate + respond to challenges in a timely fashion
  • Ensure that we are tailoring our customer plans which are aligned to our business priorities and UK plans. You’ll need to achieve this by leading our cross functional business units as well as working well cross functionally so we can do it in a truly Ella’s way!
  1. Sales fundamentals:
  • Work with the Head of Understanding How Mum & Dads shop (Category) to deliver timely category management/insight to help deliver targets, ensure we don’t get marginalised by our competitors + most importantly, help us manage the category well for our retailers. Ultimately looking to drive credible recommendations on driving our distribution forwards across our portfolio
  • Ensure all plans are aligned to our promotional strategy, BUT don’t be afraid to challenge and change if it’s the right thing to do
  • They’ll be some internal + external reporting to get your teeth stuck into. Ultimately, we want to ensure we know our numbers inside out + show our customers we know what it takes to move the dial on our P&L’s in a credible way
  1. JBP’s:
  • Build amazing JBP’s that motivate our customers, excite our consumers + delivers the targets we set ourselves as a business
  • Identify which elements of a JBP need to be dialled up or down to achieve results, thinking not just about the next year, but also how these plans could impact us in the future
  • Build bottom up plans at a SKU level to ensure we’re making the right choices
  • Think about how the plans you’re building can impact the rest of the business
  • Make sure that the JBP’s are built in line with customer strategies, helping us to maximise the opportunities across main estate, .com + convenience
  • Ensure plans are delivered in a timely fashion; allowing time for internal alignment/sign off whilst hitting retailer timelines
  1. You:
  • Know your stuff – internal goings on, numbers, our customers + the market
  • Be willing to step back + look at things differently when required
  • Share best practice with your fellow Dealers and wider business
  • Live our values both internally and externally
  • Be willing to make sure when we do things, we do it in an Ella’s way – thinking about the personality of the brand + how we bring it to life for our team, customers + consumers


You will need to:

  • Embrace, embody + exude all that is special and unique about Ella’s
  • Have solid experience of National Account Management
  • Experience of working within an FMCG branded environment would be preferable
  • Have experience of developing, managing + leading Joint Business Plans (JBPs)
  • Have awesome relationship building & leadership skills, knowing how to get the best out of others to achieve the plan
  • Have excellent commercial skills
  • Be a brilliant communicator + networker
  • Be a proactive thinker + able to make the time to think about what we’re doing
  • Be able to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast paced environment
  • Be able to prioritise business priorities
  • Have great time management skills
  • Have great influencing skills (internally + externally)
  • Have a results focussed mind-set with the ability to “never never give up” when it comes to finding solutions
  • Be a strong project manager + have the tenacity to see projects through to the end
