Senior Technical Manager (Runs Making Great Things)

Location: Near Henley-on-Thames

Reports to: Head of Making Things Right (Technical Director)

Direct Reports: Five

Contract: Full time, 40 hours (Monday to Friday)

Closing Date: 05/03/2017

Purpose of role:

To deliver great new products + maintain collaborative partnerships with co-manufacturers whilst being responsible for driving the following areas:

 Product Development

  • NPD
  • EPD
  • Innovation

 

Technical Management

  • Systems
  • Specifications

 

Product Industrialisation (taking products from kitchen samples to full manufacture + technical relationship with co-manufacturers)

  • Trials
  • Co-manufacturer selection/control
  • Productivity

Packaging + Raw Materials

  • Compliance
  • New materials
  • Supplier approval
  • Specifications

 

Role activities / responsibilities:

  • Managing + motivating a team of 5 people ensuring delivery of objectives
  • Help generate a culture of innovation within the team to create new product ideas + new ways of making things
  • Working cross-functionally to ensure that the business needs are fully understood and implemented.  This includes working with Marketing, Sales, Project Management, Operations + Finance
  • Guide Product Developers with taking NPD concepts from initial kitchen idea to launch
  • Provide guidance on EPD projects
  • Manage + develop the Technical Data Management System
  • Ensure the team complies with the specification approval process
  • Manage + participate in industrial trials
  • To ensure that products are launched on time and to the required quality + cost standards
  • To work with co-manufacturers on 3 year quality + productivity plans
  • Involvement in new co-manufacturer, packaging + raw material supplier selection
  • To drive the technical areas of Ella’s Kitchen Mission + Dream (Sustainability)
  • Working with the Senior Technical Manager – Processing to ensure improvements in product processing and productivity e.g. F0 reduction, line efficiency
  • To identify new packaging materials + new forms of packaging
  • Encourage a process for continually improving current packaging materials
  • Support the compliance to specification of raw materials

 

What you will need:

  • Significant hands on experience in the food industry, particularly in the development + manufacture of food products + as a result can demonstrate a thorough knowledge of different food production processes + packaging
  • Qualified to degree level (life science or food science) or equivalent is adventageous
  • Significant experience of managing + motivating teams
  • Demonstrate a clear passion for food + have an enquiring mind
  • Be able to demonstrate a practical approach to problems in the factory environment
  • To be creative with innovative solutions
