There are lots of ideas for dairy free meals or ones in which you can easily substitute dairy for non-dairy milk. You can use either your baby’s usual milk or a dairy-free milk alternative that is fortified and without added sugar.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to introduce more texture into your little one’s meals, as well as introducing more variety of tastes, more complex recipes plus a second meal. There’s a lot going on so take your time and go at your baby’s pace!
Our top tips for getting started!
If your baby is confidently eating a good portion at one meal, you can introduce a second one. Our planner below gives some ideas for both brekkies + lunches.
Now’s the time to move on from thicker purees to a thick mashed texture. Go for very small lumps in a thick puree, a bit like finely mashed potato or banana, with very fine pieces, smaller than a lentil.
You can also start introducing more complex flavours + ingredient combinations to keep things exciting for those tiny taste buds!
How much is enough?
How much is enough?
Watch out for signs your baby has had enough, they’re reeeally good at knowing when their tiny tums are full. They’ might turn their head away, push away the bowl or spoon, spit the food out or clamp their mouth shut to signal that they’re done. If they do this three times, it’s time to end the meal.
That could be after a few mouthfuls or a whole bowlful and it might vary from one day to the next. As long as you’re offering lots of variety over the week and still offering their usual milk on demand, they will be getting plenty of nutrients.
